In the south, only poor people walk. And only drunks take taxis.

Yep, it's true. I used to walk when I lived in Arkansas (not because I as poor, but because it didn't make much sense to me to drive across the street to get to the bookstore/coffeeshop), and people either looked at me like they thought I was a homeless junkie or they would stop and ask me if I needed a ride in the back of their old dumpy pick-up truck.
